Most people who know me personally are aware of the challenging upbringing I experienced as a child. Even though it was never my choice to seek a career, I began working at a young age and gave up my education to do so at that point in my life. Few people are aware of the hardships I had over the decade before that since they only see a wealthy young adult flaunting his parents’ money. But what if I told you that I earned everything I have only to lose it even though it was never handed to me in the first place?
No, I didn’t blow the money away with the snap of my fingers; it just didn’t exist. Do you know the one thing that has been with me the entire time? It was my mind. I went through a lot in life and had to battle, all the while doing my best to be happy for the people around me while though I was very depressed and just wanted to leave this world.
I persevered and never gave up, and I’m happy to say that I’ve started along the path to independence by putting my own interests first by pursuing an excellent education and a rewarding career! Yes, I occasionally slack off when it comes to my studies or my obligations at work, but I’m only human, and I’m new to this, and I’m learning from my mistakes, and I’m glad to say that my mentality has matured.
When I recognize an issue with myself, I work to find a solution rather than bury it, as I once did. I became aware of the mental battle I was having, I sought guidance from professionals, and even though I wanted to cancel my appointment at the last minute due to anxiety, I overcame my fears because I had made it so far and it didn’t make sense to give up since I was one step closer to achieving my goals.
What goals, one may ask? I don’t know how my life will pan out in a week or a year, but I do know that I must keep improving myself gradually but steadily since everything that happens to me will serve as a lesson to others and to myself about how to become the best version of ourselves.
Just keep in mind that you’ll get there in the end, no matter where you’re from, so don’t let anyone discourage you in life. You might not realize it now, but the small job you have now is really a stepping stone that will assist you in achieving your goals in the future.
